The Sacramento Concert Band is sponsored by the San Juan School District and is composed of adult members of the community who enjoy playing and performing in the Sacramento area. The band was formed in 1969 and is known for the quality of its performances and for playing a wide variety of concert band music. There are nearly 50 musicians in the band ranging in age from 25 to 89. Some of the musicians have been with the band since it was formed; others have played for many years and some new members join each year.
Conductor Grant Parker is chair of the music department at Cosumnes River College where he teaches Concert Band, Brass Choir, Music History, Introduction to Music, History of Jazz and Applied Music. He has conducted the Sacramento Concert Band since 1990 and says that, "Nothing pleases the musicians more than having a large enthusiastic audience."
